Children's Theatre of the month

chooses one outstanding children’s theatre ensemble each month to be recommended to cultural managers and schools

“The Children’s Theatre of the Month” has been known well beyond the borders of North Rhine-Westphalia for almost 40 years now. It offers children of all ages the opportunity to experience every variety of the complex art form of theatre and to realise that it can be a way of adapting to the world around us. Under this promotional scheme, the two culture departments recommend unusual productions for children to event organisers in their member towns and cities, numbering over 90, and provide financial support for their performances.

Professional children’s theatres benefit from this scheme as the selected works gain particular respect and attention. Similarly, dedicated event organisers are supported in planning and financing their programmes. With grants for fees and production costs of up to 50% of the total costs, this performance network allows more than 200 performances a year across the state in the partner cities of the two culture departments.
The theater performers of the selected productions for 2014 come from every discipline and show a wide range of styles: puppeteers and actors, dancers, acrobats, jugglers, conjurors and musicians alike, they pose complicated and unusual questions on a large or small scale. Instead of easy answers, they offer gripping stories and fascinating stagecraft.
A working group of expert children's theatre event organisers has selected an outstanding children’s production for each month of the year: “Anziehsachen”, Theaterhaus Ensemble // “Circus Santa Sangre”, plan d // “Herr Mølsk”, Etienne Borgers // “Schwester”, Theater Marabu // “Vollpfosten”, flunker produktionen // “Vom kleinen Maulwurf, der wissen wollte …”, Krokodil Theater // “Maximiliane und die Monster”, Lakritz Theater // “Papirus”, Xirriquiteula Teatre // “Klug wie ein Esel”, TAMTAM objektentheater // “Der Löwe und die Maus”, Figurentheater H. Heimlich. There is also an extensive programme of performances for the summer holidays in July and August 2014.
