Independent theatre productions from NRW will be shown by “Favoriten” in Dortmund again from 25 October to 01 November 2014. The festival was founded in 1985 under the title “Theaterzwang” as a biennial presentation platform of the independent scene in NRW, and is considered the oldest fringe competition in Germany. The 16th edition of the festival is under the artistic direction of Felizitas Kleine and Johanna-Yasirra Kluhs for the first time. The NRW KULTURsekretariat itself is not involved in the festival, but will be organising the “Favoriten Performance Network“ again immediately afterwards.

The current Performance Network, for which a total of six awarded productions from the 2012 edition of the festival were selected for further support, will continue to operate until the start of the next festival. Within the context of this sponsorship model, these productions can go on tour in NRW, Germany and abroad. Venues, organisers and schools receive considerable grants for the invitation of the selected ensembles. Theatre organisers agree dates with the producers and apply to the Kultursekretariat for the respective grants. In addition, school classes will again be offered free guidance and educational support on theatrical subjects. Preparatory exercises and discussions on the introduction to the topic as well as meetings with the artists following the attended performance will intensify the theatre experience.

Incorporated into the “Favoriten” in 2014 is the “Dance Research NRW” #14, which will deal with the topic of localisation and navigation in the space.

The current performance network includes: “Brigitte Kronauer: Die Kleider der Frauen” (Brigitte Kronauer: The Clothes of the Woman), Thorsten Lensing & Jan Hein – “GRIND”, Jefta van Dinther, Minna Tiikainen, David Kiers – “Hajusom in Bollyland”, Hajusom – “Hinter Spiegeln” (Behind Mirrors), Helios Theater – “Romantic Afternoon*”, Verena Billinger & Sebastian Schulz – “We Watch You Watch”, Philine Velhagen/Drama Köln.
Information on the productions and eligibility conditions can be found in a free brochure and online.
